Nevada Educational Advocacy Center for Children & Youth – Programs
- Educational conferences: The organization is committed to hosting at least one full educational conference annually on topics related to special education services, trends and related topics. The 2015 Wrightslaw Conference is the first time a conference of this magnitude has been offered in Nevada.
- Training Workshops: During these free workshops local and regional experts in special education will provide a 1 -2 hour presentation. Focused on reaching parents and youth, the workshops are designed to provide an educational presentation, encourage group discussion and networking.
Our workshops are essential to providing direct parent training throughout the state. Whether we travel to rural areas or provide video or phone conferencing, our expectation is that as we train parents in the more remote areas of the state. In turn, these parents will share their knowledge with others in their community thereby building capacity. We are believe that our strategy will allow for easy dissemination of information and work toward uniting advocacy efforts within the state. - Advocacy Consulting Services: These are direct consulting services available to families on a sliding fee scale or pay for fee service. This is the most needed program because Nevada lacks any real capacity to provide Educational Advocates for families. There are few professional advocates in the state. Low-income families usually go without advocates, which places them at a distinct disadvantage when working with the school district.
- Website based advocacy news center: As the agency’s communication center it will provide information on all of NEACCY’s programming, and conferences, training nationwide, resources and tools, and a blog. Look for current news, trends in special education from local, regional, state and national resources. Our website is vital to uniting parents in the state.
Disclaimer: Nevada Educational Advocacy Center for Children & Youth is working diligently under our current capacity to ensure all aspects of our services are accessible to the fullest extent of our knowledge and resources.
